A blast from the past!

Despite having best friends that we like to think we will have forever everybody in there life comes across people that they hope that they never have too see again. This is kind of what this Blog post is about... "What to do when you bump in to someone that you quite frankly just don't want to acknowledge."

Now don't get me wrong a blast from the past doesn't always have to be bad but for the purpose of this story, it really was and let me tell you why....

So when I was out the other night in a club drinking far more than what is healthy, I bumped in to someone I really didn't think I was going to but always had a fear that I might. Now its not that me and this boy had loads of history because to be completely honest we didn't, there was just something about him that made me want to forget he had ever been part of my life. He was the year above me in my college and when he left I honestly thought, that was the last he would ever have to see of me, only that wasn't the case was it... ohh no! I just happened to bump into him when I least expected it and was completely unprepared but do you know what he did.... he ignored me! straight up walked away and for some strange reason (probably the alcohol) this made me soo angry, I was actually hurt, I wanted to throw things at his face.
It had shocked me that someone I used to know came back in my life for a brief moment and all they did was ignore me and it got me thinking what would I have done if he had talked to me would things have been awkward, I mean I wanted to find out what he was doing with his life but did I really care and because of this awkward encounter, I have decided to come up will some advice as to how to handle a blast from the past so hopefully they will not be as awkward as mine...
  1. If you see someone from you past be polite, a lot has probably happened in-between the last time you saw them I am sure you will have something to talk about. Ignoring someone is rude and childish.
  2. Avoid bringing up the past... this is guaranteed to make the situation awkward and put you on edge straight away.
  3. Figure out how you feel about them, it might make you remember why you stopped talking to them in the first place or it might make you want to befriend them even more.
  4. Don't act like you really know everything about them , people change and so do there opinions, take this opportunity to get to know them again, sometimes going in all guns blazing only means you get burnt.
  5. Finally be aware that you are both in the same boat! It's never comfortable bumping into someone you didn't expect to, stay calm (unlike me) and more often than not you wont have to speak to them for very long.
